Jul. 22–New Jersey’s state map for auto-insurance rates — drawn up when Packards could be bought new at car dealerships and Adolf Hitler was a pressing concern — has remained frozen in time.
Yesterday, more than a half-century later, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance issued proposed regulations to finally redraw the state’s rate map, which distinguishes areas by risk and helps car insurers determine how much to charge drivers.
